Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse Act, 2000

The Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse Act, 2000 (the Act) was enacted on the 26th of April 2000.

The Act provided for the establishment of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse and set out what the functions of the Commission would be. The Act also set out what powers and privileges the Commission and the Committees through which it would act would enjoy to enable those functions to be fulfilled and the protections which would be enjoyed by members of the public dealing with the Commission and its Committees.

The Commission was established, pursuant to the provisions of the Act, by the Minister for Education & Science on the 23rd of May 2000.

The Act was amended by Section 32 of the Residential Institutions Redress Act, 2002.
