The Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse (“the Commission”) is committed to taking reasonable steps, within its limited operational capacity, to make this website as accessible as possible. The Commission was established by statute under the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse 2000 and is not a public body for the purposes of S.I. 358/2020 but provides this statement voluntarily in the interest of transparency and good practice.

The Commission is in a wind-down phase, operating with a staff of two, managed by the Chairperson, with significantly reduced resources. The website functions solely as an informational and archival resource, and hosts documents created long before accessibility standards were introduced. Most of the content on the site consists of archival pre 2018 material which is exempt from accessibility requirements under S.I. 358/2020.

Under S.I. 358/2020, archival content and pre‑2018 documents not required for ongoing administrative processes are exempt from accessibility requirements. Within this exempt archival content, the following elements are not accessible:
- PDFs that are scanned or untagged and therefore not readable by assistive technologies
- Flip‑book format in which text is rendered as images
- Images without complete or appropriate alternative text
In addition, the following issue is not covered by the archival exemption, but still presents an accessibility limitation:
- Certain parts of the website cannot be accessed using keyboard‑only navigation; fixing this would require redevelopment work that is not feasible given the Commission’s wind‑down status and limited technical resources.
